Expanding OpenVMS 9.2-3 System Disk on Proxmox
While playing around in my OpenVMS sandbox (with the ever-watchful Mr. Wiggles napping on the desk), I found myself needing more room to stretch out—digitally speaking. The pre-built OpenVMS 9.2-3 VMDK image I started with was a meager 8GB, which is like trying to live in a broom closet when you know there’s a perfectly good mansion next door. Strangely, VSI’s own installation guide recommends a minimum of 15GB for a system disk—so why ship an 8GB image? I decided to upgrade the system disk to a roomy 40GB, giving myself not only room to meet that recommendation but a bit of breathing space for logs and additional tools. Here’s how I did it on Proxmox 8.3, and spoiler alert: no coffee was spilled in the process.

Running OpenVMS x86 on Proxmox — Common Pitfalls (and My Fix)
Welcome to another entry in CoffeeMuse’s Musings — where the coffee is strong, the curiosity is caffeinated, and the virtual machines don’t always cooperate. I recently decided (with some encouragement from my cat’s disapproving stare) to try running OpenVMS x86-64 on Proxmox. Why? Because Proxmox is a fantastic, flexible hypervisor with a slick web interface, and OpenVMS… well, it’s OpenVMS , a beautiful relic of engineering that refuses to die. While Proxmox isn’t officially supported by VSI, it runs on KVM, which is supported. So in theory, it should work. Naturally, that means it didn’t. At least, not at first.

A Fresh Start: Welcome to the New CoffeeMuse's Musings
After being offline for over a year, CoffeeMuse’s Musings is finally back — and this time, it’s getting a fresh start. The old WordPress site served me well for a long time, but life (and a bit of technical debt) got in the way. Rather than trying to revive the old stack, I decided to rebuild everything from scratch using Hugo. It’s lightweight, fast, and fits my DIY-loving, geeky heart a lot better.
